The Savannah Census of 1860 showing the Joyce family (line 16 and following): Timothy, Mary, and James. This census counts only the Free Inhabitants of Savannah. In both 1850 and 1860, enslaved inhabitants were listed on a separate census under the slave holder's name, but only by age and sex, unfortunately.
It looks like the Joyces (spelled Joice here) had a boarder living with them at this time, Michael Riley and family, though he might be a relative. He is a ship carpenter, which was a cut above caulker, according to the Maryland Historical Society. This is clearly an Irish neighborhood!
Notice, too, the occupation of the next-door neighbor, Mary A. Nowlan: Lady of Leisure. She is apparently wealthy (if we can go by the value of her real estate and personal estate). But I've never seen that occupation listed before!
